Learning More About the GO Ministry at Faith
By Jacob Hardman

In the book of Mark Jesus says, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” As a believer, you are called by Jesus to “proclaim the gospel,” but that doesn’t automatically make it easy.

Faith has a ministry designed to equip you to fulfill Jesus’ call on your life. GO is a 12-week course that helps you overcome your fear and trains you to effectively share your faith and what Jesus means to you with anyone, especially the people you really care about in your life who don’t know Jesus personally.

I sat down to talk with Faith Church member Tayler Hughes about her involvement with the GO Ministry and how it impacted her ability to share her faith with others.

Tell me a little bit about yourself.

“Well, I was born and raised in Colorado. I’ve been attending Faith for about 3-4 years now. I feel like it was an act of God that I found Faith since I didn’t really have any relations to any churches around here. I started coming to Faith during my sophomore year of school. It was my first time attending church since I was a little kid. Previous to that, I had been feeling like something was missing from my life. A sense of belonging if that makes sense. A sense of being home. After visiting Faith and meeting Thea Jensen, I knew that this was the place that I was going to call home. Sometime after that I attended a GO meeting with Thea and that night my entire family received Christ. It was such a powerful moment. Being a part of the GO Ministry also inspired me to go on a mission trip to Cuba in 2017.”

How exactly did you get involved with the GO Ministry?

“As I was attending Faith, Thea and I had been doing Bible studies together. You could say that she is my mentor. After about a year of being at Faith, Thea suggested that I get involved with the GO ministry so that I could learn skills that would help me share my faith with others.”

What kind of things did you learn in the GO Ministry?

“We learned more about the theology behind the Gospel itself as well as strategies for sharing the Gospel with people. Probably the best example of some strategies that we learned is to ask what we call two diagnostic questions. These questions being “If you were to die today, would you go to heaven?” and “If you were to die today, why God should let you into heaven?” These questions serve as a great way to get people to think more about how we need God’s grace and sacrifice to get into heaven, it’s impossible on our own.”

What kind of things did you do in the GO Ministry?

“Well we would meet every Tuesday night to discuss strategies for sharing the Gospel, and sometimes we would go to people’s houses to talk with them directly. Sometimes we would visit people who had expressed interest in learning more about the Gospel by requesting more information in the blue books at Faith, other times we would go door to door seeking people that we could reach. We would work as teams of three so that we could complement each other’s strengths when it came to discuss with people.”

Earlier you mentioned your mission trip to Cuba, how did GO prepare you for that trip?

“Being a part of the ministry taught me how to share the Gospel. It gave me the knowledge and confidence that I needed to be able to go to another country and share my faith. Without a doubt being a part of the GO Ministry led to me going to Cuba.”

Do you have any advice to give to others who might consider bring a part of the GO Ministry?

“Do it. Without a doubt, do it. It is a great way to not only learn how to share your faith, but a way to learn more about your faith as a whole. I was pretty scared the first few times that I shared the Gospel. I still get scared sometimes. But it is so important to remember that Jesus is with us. The Bible says that the Holy Spirit will give us the words to say when our own words fail. And I’ve always found that to be true.”
