By Becky YoungAs social distancing and living without much contact with others become the norm, we are all susceptible to isolation and loneliness. In light of this, Faith has been striving to find new and creative ways to maintain connection and maintain fellowship as a church. Innovation and creativity have been themes for sticking together during the health crisis. From ongoing technology upgrades for our Sunday Livestream services to hosting a food drive and jazz concert, Faith has been consistently creating new ways to connect with each and every one of us during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are just a few of the creative ways we have continued to stay united during this time.Food Drive & Jazz HourThis past Sunday, Faith hosted The Oasis Jazz Band on the front lawn for an afternoon of relaxing music, warm sunshine and waving to friends from a safe distance. Picnic blankets dotted the south lawn and families listened to the concert from the comfort of their cars. Old friends caught up with one another (from a safe 6-foot distance, of course!) as the lighthearted music played. Not only was this a great time to listen to good music, but it was also a very successful food drive! Cars drove up one after another to open tailgates and unload boxes and bags of food for Serve 6.8. By the time it was over, enough food was donated to fill the entire back of a pickup truck! Thanks for your generosity, Faith!
Small Groups TailgateAs the weather warms up and it’s safer to be outside with one another, some small groups have started to gather together once again, as long as safe social distancing is ensured. This past week, Faith had three small groups independently gather in the church parking lot on the same night. Lawn chairs, popsicles and laughter were found as groups began to reconnect face-to-face once again.
Horizons Meal DeliveryA few resourceful minds joined together recently and came up with a creative way to bless the widows at Faith. Before we knew it, a full meal delivery service was up and running to serve a meal to the women of Horizons, Faith’s ministry to widows. Chicken, potatoes, fruit and dessert were prepared by loving hands and then delivered to the women’s front doorsteps. What a creative and delicious way to bless these women we love so much!
Video DevotionalsStarting in the very early days of the coronavirus pandemic, Faith has created daily devotionals, accessed on the app or website, which have helped us all find encouragement and dig into Scripture. From engaging with artists and their creative expressions of God’s love to a week of encouraging messages for moms before Mother’s Day, these devotionals have been so helpful to so many!MOPS End of Year MOPS finished out their year strong. God’s faithfulness was the theme of their last Zoom meeting. With coffee in hand, ladies shared what they have learned about life and how they have seen God’s faithfulness to this point and how he will remain faithful to them through a summer of keeping active children engaged in the age of social distancing. At least one small group enjoyed meeting face-to-face at a parking lot picnic. It was such a boost for them to see one another! Just before Mother’s Day, Vicki, the MOPS coordinator at Faith, blessed the moms with a beautiful card about how God sees them, a letter affirming that their mothering matters, and a fun pick-me-up coffee gift card. Moms, we appreciate you.
Faith at the Drive-InIf you haven’t heard yet, we are going to be having church at the Holiday Twin Drive-In movie theater this Sunday, May 24, at 10am. Wrapped into this service will be a ceremony to honor the graduating class of 2020 and a chance to take communion together. What a unique and creative way for us to gather! If you’re not able to attend in person, Livestream will still be available so you can watch at home.
